Be wary of quotes that sound too good to be true. "You get what you pay for" applies squarely to rogue traders: an unrealistically low price usually means corners cut, materials skimped or extras added later.
Watch for pressure. Legitimate companies give you time to decide; cowboys push for signatures and cash deposits today. Be cautious too of traders with no fixed address, no landline, and nothing verifiable about their history.
Then check the positives. Look for independent reviews across multiple platforms, not just hand-picked testimonials. Look for accreditations and memberships that are checkable, insurance-backed guarantees in writing, and a local track record: real installations, in real homes, that the company can point to.
And trust companies that explain rather than sell, clear pricing, honest timescales and straight answers.
