As we’re all forced to stay at home for the foreseeable future, it’s important to have some routine and to keep busy. This is particularly the case if you’re a family with school-age children. We all know that children require a lot of attention and there’s only a limited amount of time that they will watch TV before getting bored. TV is also not the most beneficial activity, although it can prove an essential device in small doses.
To help you and your family to get the most of the current COVID-19 lockdown situation, here are five ideas to get the kids active without social interaction.
1. Create a chore list
Pay your kids to clean and tidy the house. Either set prices for each task or offer other rewards such as their favourite TV programme or a tasty treat.
2. Embrace homeschooling
Work with your children as close to their school timetable as possible. Section off half-hour slots for maths, English etc and make sure you leave time for PE!
3. Get creative
Painting, drawing and craft are great activities to pass the time. They also boost brain function and improve mood. Once you’re done, you can adorn the walls of your home with your little one’s masterpieces.
4. Do a home bake-off
If you’re lucky enough to have more than one child, competition is a great motivator. They’ll also have to work closely and learn how to share the oven and kitchen space – under safe adult supervision of course.
5. Stay fit and active
While the weather’s fine, running, walking and cycling are all safe and fun activities. When the rain inevitable arrives, there are hundreds of keep fit videos out there from easy aerobics to Marine-style circuit training.
